A cynic could argue it is all placebo effect, and undoubtedly placebo plays a role (Although the whole concept of placebo is unscientific, and is merely a way for materialists to dismiss out of hand phenomena they don’t understand. Also, placebo plays a major role in modern medicine). Arguing against this, however, are the experimental findings of William Braud (described in a subsequent chapter) that human consciousness can cause changes to living systems in blinded experimental trials, and the fact that people (and pet animals) who have no idea they are being helped will also respond to healing efforts.

Since the healer never knows the outcome of a healing effort, it is therefore always worth trying, since it is possible to effect dramatic, positive changes in a persons health that are not predictable in advance.

A simple example is that when scientists make a new type of crystal in the laboratory, scientists in laboratories across the world can suddenly make the crystal too, even though previously it was difficult or impossible to make. The same idea is true here. Every time a person heals from a disease, it creates a morphic field of healing that can help others in the future to heal. The healer facilitates this process by using consciousness to help others tap into the morphic field of healing, and the morphic field of other successful healers from the past .

Thought forms: A concept from Theosophy that thoughts are alive and can create forms that can affect reality. Pendulum commands are the thought forms.

Cone of Power: When the pendulum spins in circle during a healing, it creates the outline of a cone shape while spinning. In magic, these circular movements are one of the ways that "power" is generated to cast the magic spell. Namely, the spinning is the source of energy that brings the spell to life, then the spoken words and consciousness of the magician sends the energized spell out into the world to affect reality.

Radiesthetic color: Emanations given off by pendulums. These emanations are invisible and therefore not true colors. The color names are only given as a memory aid.

Etheric/Energy Body and Aura: Another concept from Theosophy that has been widely accepted by the healing community. The physical body has a non-physical counterpart that affects our health and well-being.
